80th Anniversary Commemoration Planned!
Plans are announced for an 80th anniversary commemoration of Athenia’s sinking, to be held Sept.3, 2019, at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Halifax was one of three ports in three different countries to welcome Athenia survivors after their rescue at sea. As part of the program, Tom will present an illustrated talk that evening at the museum about the Athenia tragedy. The plans prompt survivors and their descendants plan a luncheon for Sept. 3 in Halifax. It will be the first time they and their families have ever come together in such a gathering, and it presents a rare opportunity to film interviews with so many survivors in one place.
